Aquilani Deal Gets Underway

Who's that guy I left out from my last post??

Only the player that has been strongly linked to Anfield over the past couple of days.

The transfer of Italy international Alberto Aquilani from Roma to Liverpool seems seems to be Rafa's preference as a fee was agreed between the two clubs - believed to be around £20 million.

But how good is Aquilani and will he adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League compared to that of Serie A? Only time will tell.

Liverpool fans will be hoping that he can fill the shoes of Alonso alongside Mascherano in a system that worked so well for the Reds last season.

With £10 million leftover after all this transfer business is complete, will Rafa be given this money to spend elsewhere? OK, he won't be able to bring a star name in with that sort of money but further strengthening in the full back areas may be needed now with the departure of Alvaro Arbeloa and possible departure of Andrea Dossena to Napoli.

I'm sure Liverpool fans will be hoping their owners loosen their purse strings one more time for Benitez before the transfer window slams shut.

So David Villa and Fernando Torres probably won't join forces in the Premier League this summer, but we will get a good look at Villa later tonight as Valencia travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, 8pm kick off on MUTV.
